CAMANO: Ovenell named superintendent through 2028

The Stanwood-Camano School Board unanimously approved a contract Tuesday, June 3, appointing Ryan Ovenell as superintendent starting July 1.

The contract comes after Ovenell has served as interim superintendent since January 1, 2025.

He is now contracted to hold the role until June 30, 2028. Ovenell will earn a salary of $259,250.

“I’m incredibly honored to serve the district that helped to shape me,” Ovenell said in a news release from the district. “We are focused on making sure every student is seen, supported and prepared for the future of their choice, and that starts with listening to our community and staying true to the goals we’ve all committed to.”

According to the release, Ovenell is committed to increasing student achievement and graduation rates while prioritizing the safety and well-being of students, staff and school environments.

“We have talented students, dedicated educators, and a supportive community,” Ovenell said. “By staying focused on what matters, strong instruction, safe and welcoming schools and a clear plan for the future, we can create the kind of school system our kids deserve.”
