A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR WRIGHT
Like many of you I am saddened that the Hydros for Heroes event had to be cancelled by the event organizers this year. I know how much work this event takes and the dedication of the team that put it together.
Like many of you, I am still processing this news. First, I want to take a moment to express my appreciation to everyone involved in making this event a staple for many years at the Oak Harbor Marina. From the organizers Craig McKenzie and Councilmember Jim Woessner, to the entire Better Homes and Gardens McKenzie Realty team, City staff, and the numerous volunteers. This event means a lot to our community and is a highlight of our summer tourist season.
While this year’s event is not taking place, my hope is that we’re simply pressing the pause button and that someone will bring this event back to life in the future. The City’s involvement in this event was issuing the Special Event Permit and assigning staff to various roles for the event for addressing items like park maintenance, road closures, Marina access, solid waste, signage, etc. The organizers applied for the Lodging Tax Advisory Commission multi-year grant in the amount of $17,850 for 2023-2025.
This is why it is important for all of us to continue to support these events by not only showing up at the events, but volunteering to help make these events a highlight of the Oak Harbor tourism season.
If you have specific questions about other community happenings email us at info@oakharbor.org. All official communications from the City of Oak Harbor will be posted on our website and social media pages. You may always email our Communications Officer Magi Aguilar at maguilar@oakharbor.org.
Let’s take the time to enjoy the many opportunities we have right here in Oak Harbor this summer. The spirit of Hydros for Heroes lives on in our community, and I am confident that we will find other ways to celebrate our heroes and history.

Thank you
Mayor Wright
