CAMANO: School Board swears in Superintendent Ovenell

The Stanwood-Camano School District posted this to its news page on June 11, 2025.
The Stanwood-Camano School Board administered the Superintendent Oath of Office to Ryan Ovenell and accepted the resignation of Director Betsy Foster during the regular board meeting on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
The board previously approved Superintendent Ovenell’s contract at its June 3 meeting.
The board also accepted Director Foster’s resignation, effective Aug. 1 — which is when the school board will begin the process to fill the vacancy. Foster, who had been a school board director since December 2023, represents District 4, which encompasses the north and east areas of Stanwood, including Cedarhome, Lake Ketchum and Sunday Lake.
Dr. Colin Ryan, Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Support, also provided a report on the district’s Highly Capable Program.
The board also received two donations:
- $310.40 from the Stanwood Elementary PTO to cover the Stanwood Elementary School transportation field trip costs to the Padilla Bay Estuary Center.
- $549.10 from the Twin City Elementary PTO to cover the Twin City Elementary School transportation field trip costs to the Stanwood Wastewater Treatment Facility and Arrowhead Ranch.
For more information about the meeting, see the agenda or watch a video recording of the meeting, which is available to view on the meeting minutes.
The board’s next regular business meeting is at 1 p.m. on July 1. All meetings are in the boardroom at the Stanwood-Camano School District Administration & Resource Center, 26920 Pioneer Highway, in Stanwood. You can sign up for public comment for the regular board meetings HERE.
