OAK HARBOR: Letter: Council race should remain nonpartisan (PATRICK HARMAN/WNT)
Patrick Harman, a candidate for the Oak Harbor City Council, wrote a letter to the editor explaining his decision not to participate in partisan candidate forums. The letter was published in the Wed., Jul. 19, 2023 edition of the Whidbey News-Times.
They Said It
I am running for City Council, Position 2, in Oak Harbor. It is a nonpartisan office. The purpose of any political party is to elect individuals who represent their values. I am declining to participate in the candidate forums for both the Republican and Democratic parties. It is their right to have candidate forums. My personal opinion is there is way too much partisan politics in our government.
[Ed. Note: Mr. Harman declined an invitation to participate in a candidate forum presented by the Republican Women of North Whidbey and co-sponsored by the Voter Interests Project. He also did not participate in a forum presented by the League of Women Voters of Whidbey Island, a non-partisan organization.]
