The Stanwood-Camano School District posted this item in the news section of their website on Oct. 18, 2023.

The Stanwood-Camano School Board authorized a replacement levy for the February 13, 2024, ballot during its regular board meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023.

Local voters will be asked to renew the district’s expiring four-year Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) levy, which represents about 16% of the school district’s annual budget.

This levy bridges the gap between state funding for our district and the cost of staff, materials, services, and facilities our students need to fulfill the community’s desire to prepare all students for the future of their choice.

The board also heard an enrollment update, an equity update, and a report on School Improvement Plans (Policy 2005) and Accountability Goals (Policy 2004).

The school board accepted more than $15,000 in donations from the community:

  • $171.61 from the Stanwood High School 4A Band Booster Club to cover the transportation costs for the band to travel to the Jazz Festival and Drum Line Festival
  • $5,620.22 worth of equipment, training, and event expenses from the Stanwood High School 4A Booster Club in support of the Stanwood High School Volleyball program
  • $7,202.44 worth of volleyball attire and equipment from the Stanwood High School 4A Booster Club in support of the Stanwood High School Volleyball program
  • $1,000 from the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation through a grant awarded from the “Mimsie Metzger and Jon L. Metzger Music Grant Fund” in support of the music program at Port Susan Middle School
  • $2,649.63 from the Cedarhome PTO to cover the transportation costs for the Cedarhome field trips to the Kangaroo Farm, Haller Park, the Children’s Museum, Camp Orkila, and Kayak Point during the 2023-24 school year.
