South Whidbey School Director Ann Johnson is being challenged for the position by Bree Kramer-Nelson.

Johnson was appointed to the position just over a year ago and believes the value she adds to the board is her student-centered approach to the work. She said “though schools are limited in their ability to affect what happens in students’ personal lives, the school can help…by continuing in the work of inclusion and anti-racism (and) promoting social and emotional health.”

Kramer-Nelson and Johnson both support Covid vaccines and mask mandates but Kramer-Nelson is more focused on the condition of the school buildings, facilities and grounds which she says is her top priority. Kramer-Nelson also said she is supportive of the new ethnic studies and environmental science classes recently added to the High School curriculum.
