The Port of Coupeville commissioners unanimously voted to create an Industrial Development District that will allow the Port District to levy taxes without voter approval. This is the first step in a process of which there are several more steps to accomplish.

The Port has identified more that $13 million in projects they want to accomplish including improvements to the Coupeville Warf, the Greenbank Farm, and the collections building. The Industrial Development District levy will take care of roughly half of this price tag with the rest coming from grants from the state and federal governments.

Commissioner David Day said “this is one step in the direction of keeping the wharf above water, literally.” For the rest of the details, see the story by Karina Andrew.

On the ballot next Tuesday – Port of Coupeville Commissioners:

  • District 2 – John Mishasek – Incumbent running unopposed
  • District 3 – Patrick Kennedy vs Mike Seraphinoff – Incumbent Mohammad Mostafavinassab is not running
