Island County Commissioner Janet St. Clair (D-Camano Island) posted this to his Facebook page on .

Last week, the Island County Broadband Action Team met for a check-in on our progress to deliver “Internet for All” in Island County. Truly, since we first came together in 2019, our efforts to deploy mid-mile and fiber to the premises has been significant. Add to that effort, the work of our private ISP (internet service providers) to strategically increase builds in unserved areas and Island County has garnered over $20M in new investments to connect BSL’s (Broadband Service Locations) that are under or unserved, those receiving less than 100/20 documented speeds.

The Washington State Broadband Office (WSBO) has been working to prepare for $1.2B in more investments coming through NTIA (National Telecommunications and Information Administration) funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2021. Island County has been working with WSBO to close the gaps on our remaining unserved areas with that funding. If you would like to learn more about bridging the digital divide and this work, I encourage you to check out the new data dashboard at WSBO.
