The Oak Harbor Police Department is aware of and investigating numerous thefts and attempted thefts of Kias and Hyundais (again). The Island County Sheriff’s Office has tentatively identified a person of interest in a vehicle stolen from Oak Harbor on Monday and then involved in a pursuit with Washington State Patrol and an ICSO Deputy an hour after the reported theft, and we believe the same person is involved in the ongoing criminal activity.

In the mean time, we are investigating each reported theft and attempted theft, which means processing each vehicle for possible evidence. We are canvassing for cameras as well. If you own a Kia or Hyundia and have not gotten the fix done through the dealership that prevents the “work around,” we suggest parking the vehicle inside a garage or installing an anti-theft device.
