Savannah Erickson successfully ran against Jim Towers for Position 3 on the South Whidbey Fire/EMS board of commissioners. However, at the Thursday meeting, Jim Towers was appointed to the board to fill position 1 which fell vacant with the resignation of Commissioner Larry Metz. Metz’s name was on the ballot, but he moved outside the district and thus, had to resign.

Erickson credited several things for her success. She said that she “just had to work hard to get to know people.” She also credited her success to her “alignment with school board candidates and their progressive values.” She went on to say that she was excited about “bringing some diversity to the fire district’s board of commissioners, which has traditionally been occupied by older men.”
