CAMANO: School board appoints Michael Olson to fill vacant board seat

Michael Olson has been appointed as the newest member of the Stanwood-Camano School Board.
After interviewing candidates during a special meeting Tuesday, Sept. 2, the Board voted 4-0 to appoint Olson as the new District 4 representative.
The seat was vacant after Betsy Foster resigned on Aug. 1. District 4 encompasses the north and east areas of Stanwood, including Cedarhome, Lake Ketchum and Sunday Lake. Olson will serve until the next regular election in November 2027.
Olson brings nearly four decades of public education leadership to the role, including more than 25 years of service in the Stanwood-Camano School District. He served locally as a principal at Church Creek and Utsalady Elementary Schools, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education, and Principal of Port Susan Middle School.
From 2012 until his retirement in 2022, Olson was Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning in the Sedro-Woolley School District, where he advanced instructional programs, led districtwide curriculum and assessment systems, and collaborated with the Skagit STEM Network and state-level advisory committees
Following retirement, he consulted for the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), coaching schools on inclusionary practices and continuous improvement.
