Whidbey and Camano Island shorelines are important rearing habitats for out-migrating juvenile salmon.

The time spent by baby salmon in the marine nearshore is essential to their ability to survive as adults. People and marine mammals such as resident orcas depend on adult salmon for food when the salmon pass back along our shorelines on their way to spawn in their natal rivers.

Please see our salmon recovery webpage for more information on how to protect and restore our shorelines for salmon- https://www.islandcountywa.gov/651/Salmon-Recovery
