Oak Harbor City Councilor Bryan Stucky posted this to his Facebook page on Sep. 9, 2025.
I just wanted to clear up a few things on this project:
Highway 20 is a state highway. Which means the decision to place a roundabout at this specific area is a state decision, NOT the city.
They have presented to us twice with the chance to ask questions, but they were not seeking permission to do or not do the project.
Why was this place selected? The first priority when the state looks to improve roads is safety, secondary to that is traffic flow. When they presented their data this area was more prone to accidents, which is why this specific site was selected.
There are other places I would love to see improved on hwy 20, specifically the bottle neck that happens near swantown and 20. I think our local state reps are getting tired of me asking almost every time I see them. I have been told that area was slated for 27/28 but would likely get delayed.
