COUPEVILLE: Port seeks input on development district levy
Luisa Loi reports from the Port of Coupeville’s board meeting of Wed., Sep. 25, 2024 for the Whidbey News-Times.
Community members are invited to provide input for the Port of Coupeville’s Industrial Development District — or “IDD” — levy rate for the 2025 tax year.
The public hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, while the board of commissioners will finalize their decision with a vote on Nov. 13.
Money collected from the levy will fund capital projects within the port’s area, including rehabilitating and improving the Coupeville Wharf (which will be completed in 2025), the Greenbank Farm and 24 Front Street, while grants and state and federal funding contribute to remaining costs.
They Said It
During a meeting on Sept. 25, Executive Director Chris Michalopoulos said he plans to keep the rate the same as the 2021 tax rate of $0.45 per $1,000 of assessed value on taxable property in the district, though port commissioners can choose to reduce or eliminate that based on need.
