Janet St. Clair (D-Camano Island), who is running for the State Senate seat from the 10th Legislative District, sent this email to supporters on Sat., Sep. 21, 2024.

After nearly nine months of campaigning, we are approaching the finish line of one of the most consequential elections of our time. For many, this is the time they begin to tune into elections and politics to decide who will best represent their vision for the future. This is also when it is time to focus again on why we are running as leaders hoping to represent you.  My “why” is clear…

  • I will support working families, including livable wages, affordable housing and accessible childcare
  • I will protect our environment and build resilient communities
  • I will strengthen our healthcare access and affordability, and I am the only 100% pro-choice candidate in this race ready to fiercely protect women’s and LGBTQ+ rights

For over 30 years, my personal and professional life has been dedicated to lifting our friends and neighbors up. My work as a community volunteer, teacher, social worker, foster parent and county commissioner has given me joy and purpose. I came by this because of the intentional values of my family.

My grandparents were hardworking folks who worked on farms and ran a small business. They were deeply involved in their small-town communities. My granddad served in Europe in WWI and my dad served in the Navy on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific. My mom was a teacher and community volunteer. Both my parents served as poll volunteers to support elections and our democracy.

My family never raised me to point fingers and find blame. Instead, they taught me to find solutions and point to the future. I’ve carried these lessons throughout my career and am proud to continue this mission in my campaign for State Senate. As we near the election, we need your support to get our message out and reach more voters. A contribution of $25 can help us make a real difference! [Ed. Note: donation link omitted.]

Our community has many challenges: lack of access to healthcare, inadequate veteran support, poor broadband infrastructure, and corporations driving up the cost of living. I’m running because we need someone with the experience and determination to tackle these issues. I promise to focus on these concerns and more when I’m elected. I will not be a passive leader who waits for others to lead. I will lean in, working to be present in the communities I serve, listening to those who struggle and finding solutions.

As a local elected official, I have a proven track record of working across party lines at the local, state, and national levels to establish successful policy solutions. It is clear we can accomplish a lot when we sit down, actively listen to one another, and find a path forward. Policy should never be “check the box and take the photo” but continuously evolving to meet the needs of the people and listening to how we can always improve the lives of the people we serve.

There is more to be done, and I can’t wait to continue this work. If we haven’t met, I hope we do soon. Please join us at one of our events in Skagit, Snohomish or Island County.  If you have a question, please reach out and let’s talk.  I check my email every morning and promise to get back to you. Let’s work together. We can build a better future for our children and grandchildren.   If you would like to learn more about me, the issues we are focusing on, and who is supporting our campaign, feel free to check out my website at janetforsenate.org. If any of this has connected to you and you would like to help get our message out, you can donate below!  Let’s do this!
