Island County Board of Commissioners – Work Session

The Board of County Commissioners meets in Work Session routinely on the first three Wednesdays of each month (unless otherwise scheduled). Work sessions are public meetings which provide an opportunity in an informal workshop format for the Board to review in detail ongoing issues with individual departments and elected officials. This time also is used for the Board to meet with other agencies, committees and groups to discuss specific topics of mutual interest. Items are typically first reviewed at Work Session before being scheduled on the agenda for the Board’s regular business meetings held on Tuesdays. Topics of interest include:

• Public Works Director Connie Bowers leading discussions on amendments to the transportation improvement and clean water utility plans; and various projects and plans relating to English Boom Park (on Camano Island), Freeland Park, and Woodland Beach Road (on Camano Island).
• Treasurer Wanda Grone presenting the February treasurer’s report.
• Budget Manager Doug Martin leading discussions on the use of Rural County Economic Development Fund (RCEDF) money for projects in Oak Harbor and Coupeville, and a follow up on the action plan to use American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for affordable housing.
• Updates on cybersecurity from the General Services Administration.
