Community members who applied to be on the Stanwood-Camano School District’s Academic Advisory Committee received word last week that the group will hold its first meeting Dec. 12.

The committee was formed with the goal of working with Teaching & Learning staff and educators to review curriculum, discuss instructional strategies and provide valuable feedback on academic initiatives, according to the district’s website.

At the Oct. 15 school board meeting, board President Al Schreiber told his fellow directors that there will also be an academic task force — separate from the committee.

The process of forming the committee and task force has consisted of some uncertainty due to unclear goals, a lack of transparency in member selection and concerns about representation.
