Be safe in the dark and in wintery weather
The Stanwood-Camano School District posted this on its website on 2025-10-23 17:00:00.

As the mornings grow darker and temperatures drop, please be cautious before and after school. Bus stops and walking routes can be difficult to see, especially during early morning hours or foggy conditions.
Transportation officials urge families to consider using a flashlight at the bus stop or adding reflective tape to jackets or backpacks. Students should wait a few steps back from the road but remain visible — please do not wait inside nearby vehicles or houses, where buses may not see waiting riders.
We encourage families to review personal safety routines with their children, such as staying alert to surroundings and reporting anything that feels unsafe to a trusted adult or school staff member.
When it comes to delays or closures during inclement weather, safety comes first. We consider the safety of our students on buses, student drivers, families traveling to school, and staff. Our team monitors weather patterns 24/7 and drives roads throughout the district as early as 3 a.m. to check conditions. Decisions about school schedules are typically made by 5 a.m., at which point we notify families by phone, text, email, website, our app, and media.
We encourage families to use extra caution even when weather conditions do not rise to the level of a school delay or closure. Please make sure your contact information in Skyward Family Access is up to date to receive timely alerts.
Thank you for helping keep our students and staff safe during dark mornings and changing winter weather.
