As 2024 winds down, we’re commemorating Greenbank Farm’s 120th anniversary this year! This weekend, we look back at the Farm pond’s history:

Built in 1973, the main purpose of the pond is fire safety water storage. Located on the Pacific Flyway, it’s also a welcome respite for migrating birds. And over the years, many people have enjoyed a moment of peace and meditation at the pond!

The top right photo in this collage shows Island County Master Gardeners landscaping the pond’s banks. These valued volunteers continue to maintain the Farm’s gardens year-round — we are grateful for their work!

There are several notable art pieces in and around the pond:

• Blue Heron sculpture, by Gunter Reimnitz of Abraxas Crow Company in Port Townsend

• Observer by Hank Nelson, a stone sculpture on the south side of the pond, made of Cascades gray granite

• Rest and reflection benches built by Jerry Mercer

Greenbank Farm is a great place to visit year-round, hope to see you there soon!
