We’re so excited to have the Stanwood Camano Arts Advocacy Commission (SCAAC) and its dedicated volunteers once again enriching student learning through the Afternoon with the Arts program — now expanding into at least three elementary schools this year!

In past years, SCAAC volunteers have brought hands-on, curriculum-connected art lessons to students at Utsalady and Elger Bay elementaries. This year, we’re excited to share that the program is growing — and Twin City Elementary is now hosting Afternoon with the Arts for the first time.

This week and next week, Twin City fourth- and fifth-graders are spending part of each day with the SCAAC volunteers on engaging projects that strengthen creative thinking, build confidence, and deepen understanding through meaningful artistic practice. On Thursday, fifth-graders were working on colorful hojalata tin art!

Their work directly supports our Strategic Plan by empowering students to learn in well-rounded, enriching ways. Thank you, SCAAC, for inspiring our learners and expanding your impact across the district — one art project at a time!

Want more art? SCAAC (@scaac_wa) is inviting the community to its Annual Open House — a free, family-friendly celebration of art, teaching, and creativity. Join them from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center for an evening featuring artwork by SCAAC teaching artists, music, interactive art activities.
