School Board hears reports from district officials, YMCA

The Stanwood-Camano School Board heard several reports during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026.
The board heard a report from Stanwood Middle School Principal Tim Dickinson and Vice Principal Holly Christmas on the building’s School Improvement Plan and Annual Action Plan.
The board then received a YMCA Presentation, updating the directors on progress and growth of the partnership between the district and the YMCA by Jamie Williams, the Stanwood-Camano YMCA Associate Executive Director.
Executive Director of Business Services Ruth Floyd and Capital Projects Specialist Jeff Silverman provided a Capital Projects Update. Floyd then gave the November Financial Report, and Superintendent Ryan Ovenell gave the Enrollment Report.
The board also received five donations:

$305.13 from the Stanwood Middle School PTO to purchase classroom art supplies for Stanwood Middle School.

$314.25 from the Elger Bay Elementary School PTA to cover the Elger Bay Elementary School field trip transportation costs to the pumpkin patch at the Andrews Hay Farm.

$3,499.96 from Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation to purchase social studies learning enhancement at Stanwood High School and art/classroom enhancement at Elger Bay Elementary School.

$906.30 from the Twin City PTA to cover the Twin City Elementary transportation costs to Swan Trail Farm.

$1,000 from the Jim Hanger Foundation to help pay down the district’s food service debt.
One person spoke during the public comment period.
The board then adjourned to a study session to discuss Board Goal Setting and Board Operating Protocol. The board then moved into a closed Executive Session to review the performance of a district employee.
