The Stanwood-Camano School District posted this on its website on 2026-01-15 16:00:00.

We’re inviting the entire community to Health and Safety Night at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Stanwood High School.

Held twice each year for the past several years, Health and Safety Nights are an opportunity for families and community members to learn more about how our schools support student well-being. These evenings are designed to build understanding, answer questions, and provide greater insight into the district’s health, safety, and student support efforts.

The highlight of this event is a licensed community showing of “Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age,” the award-winning documentary that explores how screen time, social media, video games, and digital connection affect young people’s mental wellness, attention, and family life — and offers practical ideas for finding balance.

After the film, choose two interactive breakout sessions (25 minutes each) to attend:

  • Student and Staff Safety — Led by School Resource Officer Dep. Bud McCurry, discuss key measures that keep our school environments secure and supportive.
  • SEL & Mental Health Related to Digital Use — With Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Dr. Colin Ryan, explore how emotional learning and mental health are connected to digital habits.
  • HIB / Discrimination — Join Executive Director of Human Resources Christine Del Pozo and Executive Director of Student Support Services Jennifer Allen to learn about harassment, intimidation, bullying, and discrimination supports, rights, and policies.
  • Digital Safety & Cell Phone-Free Instruction — With Superintendent Ryan Ovenell, Stanwood High Principal Mike Washington, and Lincoln Hill High Principal Crysty Auckland, dive into our cell phone-free instructional approach and strategies to promote focused, healthy technology use in school.

Come ask questions, share ideas, and be part of our collective effort to help students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

This free event is open to students, families, and community members.
