3 earn Shining Star awards at School Board meeting

The Stanwood-Camano School Board honored three Shining Stars and heard several reports during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026.

Church Creek Campus principal and Saratoga School lead teacher Monica McDaniel announced three Shining Stars: Baylynn Sharrock from Lincoln Hill High, Christian Kuehn from Lincoln Academy, and Sawyer Jaindl from Saratoga School.

The board received a data update from Elger Bay Elementary by principal Kimberly Caldwell on the building’s School Improvement Plan and Annual Action Plan.

Executive Director of Special Services Dr. Deka Smith then provided a Special Services Update (Policy 2160, Policy 2162), and Superintendent Ryan Ovenell provided the February Enrollment Report.

The board also received three donations:

• $648 rebate from Firefly Images in support of Stanwood Elementary School.  

• $15,153.85 from the Stanwood Elementary School PTO to cover the costs of the 5th Grade Outdoor Education field trip to Cedar Springs.  

• $628.55 from the Cedarhome Elementary PTO to cover the transportation costs of the field trip to Swan Trails Farm. 

Two citizens spoke during the public comment period.

The board’s next regular business meeting is at 1 p.m. on March 3. All meetings take place in the boardroom at the Stanwood-Camano School District Administration & Resource Center, 26920 Pioneer Highway, Stanwood. You can sign up for public comment for regular board meetings HERE.
