OAK HARBOR: Demolition has begun (FB)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Demolition of Vacant Buildings Starts Today

OAK HARBOR, WA — April 14, 2025 – After a thorough and engaging public outreach process that began in the fall of 2022, the City of Oak Harbor has moved forward with the long-anticipated demolition of the unused and deteriorating buildings located at 1081 and 1091 SE Pioneer Way. Demolition has begun.

The removal of these long-vacant structures marks a significant step toward the revitalization of Oak Harbor’s Downtown and Waterfront District. Community members are encouraged to stay involved in shaping the future of this key area.
The next Public Workshop for the Downtown and Waterfront Redevelopment Master Plan will be held on Thursday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m. at the Oak Harbor Yacht Club, located at 1301 Catalina Drive. Residents, business owners, and all interested parties are invited to attend, ask questions, and share their vision for what comes next.

“This redevelopment is about more than just new buildings,” said Steve Schuller, Public Works Director. “It’s about setting the stage for a thriving future and laying the foundation for future generations to build upon.”

The City of Oak Harbor remains committed to a collaborative, community-driven redevelopment process. Continued participation is essential in shaping a Downtown and Waterfront that reflects the values, needs, and dreams of its residents.
