ELECTIONS 2028 / RON MUZZALL: Standing Strong for Our Community’s Future

Ron Muzzall for State Senate
Ron Muzzall (R-Oak Harbor) candidate for State Senator, 10th Legislative District
State Senator Ron Muzzall (R-Oak Harbor)

Friends,

It’s been a week since the end of the legislative session and I’m still trying to wrap my head around what just happened in Olympia. After 105 days, I’m finally back home with my family, the farm, and the real world – where we’re expected to live within our means, work hard, and own the consequences of our decisions. That’s what accountability looks like. Sadly, the same can’t be said for the policies pushed through this session These are policies that will cost taxpayers more, grow government, and do little to actually solve the real problems facing Washington families.

I want to sincerely thank each of you who reached out to my office during session. Your thousands of calls, emails, and letters reminded Olympia that folks here at home are paying attention and demanding better.

We didn’t back down – and we won important battles:

  • Protected postpartum Medicaid coverage for mothers across our state.
  • Passed my bill to alleviate financial hardship on seniors and disabled individuals facing overpayment collections, through no fault of their own – it’s now on the Governor’s desk, awaiting signature.
  • Improved public safety, expanding law enforcement resources to help protect our communities.
  • Expanded career and technical education all the way down to sixth grade, setting our kids up for a strong future.

I was able to secure vital investments for the 10th Legislative District in the Capital and Transportation budgets that will benefit the Island, Skagit, and Snohomish Counties, including:

  • $1.5 million for local youth programs (Skagit YMCA, Arlington and Coupeville Boys & Girls Clubs).
  • $300,000 for law enforcement facilities, including the Stanwood Police Station and North Whidbey training facility.
  • $300,000 for a Comprehensive Health Initiative for Veterans led by Camano Island Legion Veterans.
  • $900,000 dedicated to suicide prevention measures at the Deception Pass Bridge.
  • Over $1 million for critical improvements to the Stanwood Levee to protect residents against flooding.

But we still have work to do.

Unfortunately, while hardworking Washington families are looking for ways to reduce costs, Olympia’s majority party has chosen to do the exact opposite:

  • Higher taxes and fees across the board, including sales tax increases and expansion into the service industry, billions of dollars in new business taxes that raise costs for everything from medical care to groceries, increased liquor fees for grocery stores and restaurants, hikes to hunting and fishing licenses, and even higher Discover Pass fees – all of which will drive up the cost of everyday essentials.
  • Rent control policies that discourage investment in housing and worsen our supply crisis.
  • Raiding unemployment funds to cover benefits for workers on strike – hurting those truly unemployed through no choice of their own.
  • Increasing regulation regarding refrigerants for food storage – further increasing the cost of groceries,
  • Gutting the Parental Bill of Rights, taking away the voice of families when it’s needed most.

And it gets worse. The budget passed this session is bloated, irresponsible, and unsustainable. It grows government while leaving working families to foot the bill. That’s not the Washington I grew up in – and it’s not the Washington I want to leave behind.

Right now, more than 200 bills – including these tax increases and the budgets – sit on the Governor’s desk. He has until May 20th take action (sign or veto) or the bills become law. He has pledged to review budgets line-by-line and expressed opposition to tax hikes. I hope he keeps that promise – for all our sakes.

But no matter what happens, the battle for the future of our state continues. The 10th District will once again be ground zero. We’re facing four long, hard years ahead. But I’m not backing down – and I hope you won’t either.

We’ve built real momentum for common sense and government accountability – now let’s keep it going. Will you help start this new chapter strong by chipping in $505, $105, or even $5 today?

Thank you for trusting me to be your voice. It’s an honor I never take for granted – and one I’ll continue to fight for every single day.

All my best,

Senator Ron Muzzall

The Happy Farmer
