The Stanwood Camano News has filed a lawsuit against the Stanwood-Camano School District, alleging that the district violated the state Public Records Act by failing to release emails from school board members’ personal accounts.
SC News requested emails from all Stanwood-Camano School Board members to better understand the events leading up to Utsalady Elementary School Principal Michael Hanna being placed on leave, after concerns were raised about the abruptness of an investigation into his leadership and potential violations of district policy.
The emails that were received not only clarified board communications but also revealed that some members — specifically Board President Al Schreiber, Vice President Steve King and Legislative Representative Betsy Foster — were forwarding board-related emails to personal accounts.
