Interim Fire Commissioner Paul Foster sworn in Nov. 13
The Board of Fire Commissioners officially swore in its newest member Monday night, Nov. 13.
Commissioner Paul Foster replaces Kelly Yadon, who stepped down Aug. 31 due to moving out of the district. By state law, the Board of Fire Commissioners had 90 days to appoint a replacement for former Commissioner Yadon’s vacant position.
Commissioner Foster served as the Assistant Medical Group Administrator for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group from 1987 through 2017. He was elected to the City Council in the city of Redlands, CA, in 2010 and was reelected in 2014 and 2018. He served as Mayor Pro Tempore from 2014 through 2018 and Mayor from 2015 through 2021. Commissioner Foster moved to Camano Island in January 2022. Locally he serves on the Camano Island Yacht Club Board of Trustees and on the Board of Directors for the Camano Island Chamber of Commerce.
This is an interim position; Commissioner Foster will serve through the end of 2024. To serve the remainder of Yadon’s term – which ends Dec. 31, 2027 – Foster would need to run for reelection in 2024.
Fire Commissioners are elected at large, meaning they don’t represent a specific area of the island, and each serve a six-year term.
