The Stanwood-Camano School Board approved an interim superintendent contract at its Tuesday, Feb. 4 meeting.
Deputy Superintendent Ryan Ovenell has been serving as interim superintendent since Deborah Rumbaugh departed from the district in mid-December.
It was decided at Tuesday’s meeting that Ovenell would continue in the position until June 30.
They Said It
Director Miranda Evans expressed that she had asked Board President Al Schreiber to add an item on finding a permanent solution to the agenda, but it was not added.
“I’m a little disappointed that we don’t have a discussion on here about what we’re going to do for next year for a superintendent,” she said. “We are missing the window of when everybody is conducting those interviews … So, man, just super, super frustrated about that.”
“It should have been on this agenda,” she said.
Schreiber said he wanted to wait until all board members were present, as Director Betsy Foster and Charlotte Murry were absent from Tuesday’s meeting.
He also said he wanted the interim contract approved before discussing a plan for next year.
“Several directors have approached the chair about a discussion coming up on a more permanent solution to the superintendent,” Schreiber said. “We will put that on our schedule for a topic for board discussion.”
