CAMANO: School Board hears SHS report, discusses Artificial Intelligence

The Stanwood-Camano School Board heard a report from Stanwood High school and recognized teachers during the regular board meeting on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

The meeting opened with a rendition of the National Anthem by the Stanwood High School choir, directed by Mr. Erik Ronning.

Stanwood High School principal Mike Washington offered a look at the progress so far this year in his Stanwood High School data update.

Ruth Floyd, Executive Director of Business Services, presented the March Financial Report.

Interim superintendent Ryan Ovenell read a proclamation recognizing Teacher Appreciation Week, May 5-9.

The board also received more than $3,000 in donations:

  • $200 from Gudrun Wiebe in support of the Stanwood Middle School Band.
  • $346.60 from the Camano Island Friends of the Library to cover the transportation costs for the Elger Bay Elementary field trips to the library.
  • $1,535.70 from the Stanwood High School Band Booster Club to cover the band field trip transportation costs.
  • $500 in proceeds from the Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser from the American Heart Association in support of Utsalady Elementary School.
  • $813.60 from the Utsalady Booster Club to purchase art supplies for Utsalady Elementary School.

The board then recessed into an executive session and adjourned at 2:45 p.m.

At 3 p.m., the board then held a special meeting for a policy discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
