CARNIVAL REFUNDS
I’ve seen quite a bit of chatter suggesting the city should issue refunds for the carnival. I understand the frustration, I have three prepaid passes myself which I do not intend to use.
However “The City” cannot issue refunds. Why not? This is not the city’s event. The city does not bring the carnival to town. Nor do they sell the tickets or make the proceeds from the sale of the tickets. Because the city does not receive the money, there is simply no money to refund. If we were to refund money we never recieved we would be giving out taxpayer money from the general budget. Which on top of not being fair to our taxpayers, would not be legal.
I do not know about the status of refunds or if they will be issued by the Chamber of Commerce or any other entities at this time. As a council member I have received much of my information at the same time as the general public regarding this issue. Should I find anything official regarding the matter, I will certainly pass it along.
I would encourage those who may not wish to attend the carnival to still visit the local street vendors, participate in the live music, and attend the other wonderful wondeful events the Oak Harbor Chamber and Main Street are hosting for our community this weekend.
