⛵ Big news for Washington’s maritime heritage!

We’re thrilled to share that the historic @schoonersuva has been added to the National Register of Historic Places, thanks to a successful nomination by the Whidbey Island Maritime Heritage Foundation.

At 100 years old, the Suva is an iconic piece of Salish Sea and Whidbey Island history, designed by renowned naval architect Ted Geary for “gentleman attorney” Frank J. Pratt, Jr. This national recognition is a major win for the region, celebrating the importance of local maritime stories and the power of community-driven preservation.

We’re proud that the Maritime Washington Grant Program supported the nomination that helped make this possible. This is one of many projects we support that help communities protect and share the coastlines, vessels, and histories that make Washington’s shorelines so special.
