Dear Allen —
When I ran in 2018, I made commitments to work on access to care and healthy communities, to build better infrastructure-especially broadband and stormwater management-and to protect the rural nature of our home and the iconic beauty of our islands. I also committed to bring respectful and inclusive leadership that focuses on science, data and best practice in policy and management. As your County Commissioner, I have worked hard to live up to those promises. Now I need your HELP [Ed. Note: link omitted] to keep working for you.
We have an opportunity for all to get involved in this campaign and assure I can continue to work hard for the people of Island County. We have a survey we hope you will complete to help volunteer. Would you and your dog join Bogey and me in walking in parades across the County? Our first parade is April 30 at the Oak Harbor Holland Happening! I invite you to host or attend a house party in your community to learn more and share your priorities for our future. - Navigated the County through the onslaught of the pandemic as Chair of the Board of County Commissioners and as Chair of the Board of Health for two consecutive years. Using science and data as guideposts, worked to ensure public health safety and economic resilience investing in testing, vaccinations as well as grants to local community organizations and small businesses.
- Working closely with local healthcare providers and Whidbey Health, convened relationships with our elected leaders and State and Federal agencies to find resources to bridge the Hospital District through this crisis and protect access to care for critical health services.
- Understanding the behavioral health needs in our community, built a regional crisis stabilization center, reorganized our Human Services Department to provide outreach mental health and worked with Rep. Paul for State funding to dedicated services for youth.
- Completed a broadband study, created the first Broadband Action Team and brought grants to Island County to expand internet access in un- and underserved areas.
- As a member of the Puget Sound Partnership, worked on policies to promote salmon recovery and protect our orca whales through habitat restoration and protections.
- Working at the intersection of State and Local government, brought forward polices for sustainable forest practices in Island County.
- Promoted resources for working families and small businesses including childcare, workforce housing and economic development.
- Assured the completion of the Camano Administration Building, improving and streamlining the delivery of services on Camano. Procured the generous donation of the stained-glass window by Jack Archibald and spearheaded the first ever Art in Public Places policy for the County.
