I would like to send my heartfelt appreciation for your thoughts and prayers towards my recovery after the ankle surgery that left me immobilized. I am now able to move around and have been able to go to my office for short periods of time. Thank you again for your continued support and encouragement. When engaging with Island County residents, I have heard many times that people don’t feel like our current representatives are actually listening to the needs of our community. Many folks are financially stretched and must prioritize which necessities to focus on. With my leadership, public engagement will be at the heart of my decision-making.

We will be sign-waving at the Clinton Ferry Terminal soon to make sure the State of Washington knows I am ready to work with them to resolve ferry issues. The Whidbey Island Fair is happening July 25th- 28th and I plan on being there. If you get a chance, please visit the Island County Republican Party or GOP of Island County booth to pick up a yard sign and make a donation!
Public Safety is a major priority and you will find the Island County EMS Levy Lid Lift on your August Primary Ballot. If approved by voters, the fire levy lid lift will fund:
– Two more firefighters per day
– Staffing at a third station in the southeast part of the district
– Firefighter training programs
– Replacement of aging engines and equipment
These improvements would reduce response times and improve service reliability across the district. Right now, the average response time for fire and EMS calls is 15 minutes, which is a concern. Every minute counts to improve outcomes for fire and medical emergencies. Hiring two more firefighters per day would reduce response times to 10 minutes or less on average. The fire district is asking voters to change the fire levy from $0.81 per $1,000 of assessed property value to $1.20. The lid lift would cost an additional $19.50 per month for the owner of a $600,000 home.
Residents are encouraged to attend one of two public meetings hosted by Fire Chief Nick Walsh to ask questions and learn more:
• Sat. July 20 at 9am at Station 32 (6435 Central Ave. Clinton)
• Tues. July 23 at 7pm at Station 36 (5579 Bayview Rd. Langley)
Elections are won by citizens who are engaged in the process, who are willing to put time and effort into making a difference. You should receive your ballot in the next 3-5 days. Let’s make this campaign a success!
