COUPEVILLE: School boards matter (ALISON PERERA)
Coupeville School District Director (and candidate) Alison Perera posted the following on her Facebook page on Wed., Sep. 13, 2023.
School boards matter.
School boards drive the long-term success of entire school systems. When the school board works as an effective team, students thrive. When it doesn’t, they struggle.
School board members matter, too. They need to have and show a heart for children, as a champion for each and every student in the district. They need to put in the work to understand all of the many functions of a school system, to understand how to help it be its best at every level. And they need to be committed for the long haul, ready to keep working for our children year after year.
Since the school board selected me to join them last December, I have been proud of what we’ve accomplished. I’ve worked on committees that have produced the final Strategic Plan, and that recommended the new math curriculum adoption. And I’ve seen some important shifts in the way our board operates.
After nine months of working together, our board team is making progress on aligning our district functions with its priorities. But we’re just getting started.
Please share this page, and let me know if you’d like a yard sign! I’ve done a limited printing at first, but will have more on the way soon.
