DAVE PAUL: Session Updates

Share

State Representative Dave Paul (D-Oak Harbor) sent the following email from his campaign account on Tue., Mar. 8, 2022.

Dear Friends,

There’s only a few days left in the 2022 Legislative Session, but I’m still working hard on community priorities. So many of you have spoken to me about the rising costs of food, household necessities, and other consumer goods. That prompted me to write House Bill 2018, which gives Washingtonians a sales tax holiday over Labor Day weekend.

September is a difficult month for many families. Back-to-school shopping costs can make it challenging to put food on the table and pay bills. Many students are now expected to have access to computers and other technology in the home, making necessary costs rise. Under House Bill 2018 there will be no sales tax on certain items less than $1000, including clothes, school supplies, energy efficient appliances, and other necessities on Sept. 3, Sept. 4, and Sept. 5.

This sales tax holiday will encourage all of us to spend more on Main Street and support our local businesses. Big corporations are more interested in increasing profit at the expense of our families and community. Let’s reward our local businesses and retailers, who are experiencing the same burdens as we are— paying bills, putting food on the table, and caring for family members. I’m proud this legislation will help put money back into our community and Main Streets.

As always, it’s an honor to serve as your representative. Stay tuned for more legislative updates and exciting campaign work.

Sincerely,

Dave
