WHIDBEY NEWS-TIMES: Election will bring significant change to Coupeville School board
The Coupeville school board will undergo a significant change after this year’s elections as two incumbents are not running for re-election. Paul Rempa is running against Nancy Conard for Position 2 and Ward Sparacio is running against Morgan White for Position 5.
Conard, Sparacio, and White all agreed that the mask mandate for schools was something that local school boards did not have much control over as the state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction has threatened it would withhold funding from schools that did not comply.
With regards to Critical Race theory, Sparacio said “I don’t think the vast majority of people know what it means. It’s driven by politics (and) I wouldn’t want to bring critical race theory to Coupeville if it’s done the same way it is (taught) in Oregon.” Conard said she “is in favor of the curriculum that teaches students about the history of racism in the United States.” White said that “equity work is important and wants the school board to continue to invest in its equity policy.”

- Position 2 – Nancy Conard vs Paul Rempa
- Position 3 – Sherry Phay – Incumbent, running unopposed
- Position 5 – Ward Sparacio vs Morgan White
