Don’t forget to vote! February 11 is Election Day! You can drop your ballot in your mailbox or at the ballot drop box located at Oak Harbor City Hall, 865 SE Barrington Drive.
Levy Renewal Facts:
The renewal helps to maintain current programs and services not funded or fully funded by the State of Washington. Approximately 12% of our overall budget comes from the local levy.
Voters are approving a fixed dollar amount, not a tax rate. Even if property values increase, we can only collect the fixed amount that is approved by voters. When more houses are built, the tax rate decreases because the total is divided among more properties. This ongoing growth has historically helped reduce tax rates for our local levy.
Tax exemptions for senior citizens, disabled individuals, and widows/widowers of veterans are available. There are also deferments available for other property owners. Contact the Island County Auditor’s office for more information on available exemptions.
Military members and their spouses have the option to vote, too! If you are military-connected, please consult with a military or election representative about your options.
