ELECTIONS 2024: In turnaround, county commissioner, state senator poised for win after latest vote count

Jessie Stensland reports on the 2024 elections for the Whidbey News-Times.
In a remarkable turnaround, it appears that Island County’s District 2 county commissioner will be reelected, as will the incumbent state senator representing the area.
Island County Commissioner Jill Johnson, a Republican, has moved ahead of Democratic challenger Christina Elliott by 574 votes following the Tuesday night count. That’s a margin of 1.28%.
Likewise, Sen. Ron Muzzall, a Republican from Oak Harbor, has a lead over Janet St. Clair, a Democrat and Camano Island resident. Muzzall has about 51.1% while St. Clair has 48.8% following the count Tuesday.
Both Johnson and Muzzall were behind after the first tally of votes on election night.
