Island County Board of Commissioners – Work Session
January 5, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
The Board of County Commissioners meets in Work Session routinely on the first three Wednesdays of each month (unless otherwise scheduled). Work sessions are public meetings which provide an opportunity in an informal workshop format for the Board to review in detail ongoing issues with individual departments and elected officials. This time also is used for the Board to meet with other agencies, committees and groups to discuss specific topics of mutual interest. Items are typically first reviewed at Work Session before being scheduled on the agenda for the Board’s regular business meetings held on Tuesdays.
The agenda can be found at this link.
Topics of interest will include: Public Works will lead a discussion about projects funded under the Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program; Human Resources will discuss agreements with Washington State Council of County and City Employees Local 1845 on an increase of the minimum wage to $20/hour for covered workers; Planning & Community Development will review an application to convert 19 acres of a parcel in Clinton from Designated Forest Current Use to Open Space under the Public Benefit Rating System; Budget Manager Doug Martin will recommend a list of awards totaling $2.1 million for Community Service Grants and review updated guidance for Affordable Housing Grants under the American Rescue Plan Act; and COVID Response Manager Don Mason will update the commissioners.
