Island County Board of Commissioners – Work Session

March 2, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 2:30 pm

The Board of County Commissioners meets in Work Session routinely on the first three Wednesdays of each month (unless otherwise scheduled). Work sessions are public meetings which provide an opportunity in an informal workshop format for the Board to review in detail ongoing issues with individual departments and elected officials. This time also is used for the Board to meet with other agencies, committees and groups to discuss specific topics of mutual interest. Items are typically first reviewed at Work Session before being scheduled on the agenda for the Board’s regular business meetings held on Tuesdays.

The agenda for the work session can be found at this link.

Topics of interest include: discussions about the use of American Rescue Plan Act funds for affordable housing and other purposes, led by budget manager Doug Martin; the 2021 Conservation Futures Annual Project Report presented by Public Health Director Keith Higman and Dept. of Natural Resources Manager Jennifer Johnson; discussion of proposed changes to the Island County Code regarding accessory dwelling units as part of the Housing Element implementation, led by Planning Detective Mary Engle; and updates from the board staff, including a discussion of the situation at WhidbeyHealth and appointments to various county boards and committees.
