Island County Board of Health

The Island County Board of Health, established for the purpose of supervising all matters pertaining to the preservation of life and health of the people of Island County, consists of five members including: the three members of the Board of Island County Commissioners; the mayor of the City of Oak Harbor and one Whidbey General Hospital District Commissioner. The Commanding Officer of the Oak Harbor Naval Hospital serves as an ex-officio member. The terms of all members are set out to run concurrent with the terms of office of the position to which they are elected, or term of command. Regular meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at 1 p.m. in the Commissioners Hearing Room, or as may be determined by the Board of Health. Topics of interest include: a review of the consolidated contracts between the Island County Public Health Department and the Washington State Department of Health; nominations for appointment to the Citizens’ Health Advisory Board; and a presentation of census data regarding population and demographic changes in Island County and the North Sound region.
