Island County Board of Health

The Island County Board of Health, established for the purpose of supervising all matters pertaining to the preservation of life and health of the people of Island County, consists of five members including: the three members of the Board of Island County Commissioners; the mayor of the City of Oak Harbor and one Whidbey General Hospital District Commissioner. The Commanding Officer of the Oak Harbor Naval Hospital serves as an ex-officio member. The terms of all members are set out to run concurrent with the terms of office of the position to which they are elected, or term of command. Regular meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at 1 p.m. in the Commissioners Hearing Room, or as may be determined by the Board of Health.

Topics of interest include: a COVID update from Health Officer Dr. Howard Leibrand; a discussion led by Human Services Director Lynne Austin on SHB 1590, relating to school enrollment stabilization funding to address enrollment declines due to COVID-19; an update from WhidbeyHealth; nominations of volunteers to serve on the Community Health Advisory Board; and discussion of a timeline to update the Island County Code provisions relating to the Community Health Advisory Board led by Public Health Director Keith Higman.
