Older Americans Month was established in 1963 to honor the past and present contributions of older adults in our society. At that time in our history, there were 17 million adults over 65 in American and one third of them lived in poverty. Improvements to Social Security and the passage of the Older Americans Act in 1965 have reduced the number of older Americans living in poverty to 9%. I want to welcome our Island County partners Island Senior Resources and Camano Center to talk about the important work they do together to improve the lives of older adults living in Island County and their families. I also will be honoring Gordy Holmes and the Camano Pickleball Club for their efforts to build community and promote an active lifestyle. As usual, there will be opportunity for general Q&A.
