The Old Goats – Fully Informed Voters (a goal) – Luncheon with South Whidbey School District candidates

1. You are invited to attend the Old Goats – Fully Informed Voters (a goal) No-host Lunch on Friday, September 19th, noon – 2pm @ The Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club, 3334 Brooks Hill Rd., Langley.
2. Our Co-Guest Speakers will be candidates for election to our South Whidbey School Board.  Ann Johnson electannjohnson@gmail.com  is an incumbent South Whidbey School District Director. She is also the Executive Director at the Whidbey Children’s Theater. Gwendy Gabelein https://gwendy4swsd.com/2025/05/09/hello-world/ is a Chemical Dependency Counselor at Sea Mar Community Health Centers. Ms. Gabelein is challenging Ms. Johnson. Andrea Downs is an incumbent School Director running for election unopposed. Ms. Downs is the Executive Director of Whidbey Island C.A.D.A. Unfortunately, due to her work schedule, she will not be able to attend.
3. Come and meet these two women who want to have a say in the directions our Public Schools will take for the next four years. They will be able to influence the directions, but they must operate under existing School District Policies, the Washington Administrative Code (WACs), the guidelines of our elected State Superintendent of Public Education, and the Revised Code of Washington (RCWs). And, there are four other School Board Directors, a Superintendent with Staff, and a large Teaching Staff to work with. Parents want to have a say too. What are the issues these candidates want to deal with? What are the issues you want them to deal with?
4. Media reports of Public School’s success and shortcomings are sometimes painted with a broad brush. This Lunch will be an opportunity to hear what is happening here and how we may be able to influence our K-12 children’s Public Schools’ educations.
