February is Black History Month! The formal recognition of Black history began in 1926 by distinguished historian and educator Carter G. Woodson. It became an official month-long designation in 1976 when President Gerald Ford urged Americans to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” We celebrate this opportunity to recognize and learn more about the contributions and resilience of the Black community in our country and our region. #OneOakHarbor
