If fireworks are as disruptive and annoying for you as they are for us, you’ll want to check out IslandCountyFireworks.com and consider signing their petition. I did.

I miss the owls and eagles that used to occupy the park in my neighborhood that haven’t been back since July 4th.

It’s annoying and a safety hazard getting locked into our neighborhood— that’s in Oak Harbor city limits, by the way— because there are so many people lighting off fireworks in the road that it’s impossible to drive anywhere.

And I will never understand the argument that it’s “patriotic” to light off fireworks when we have veterans literally fleeing to burn ban areas to get away from the booms that bring back awful memories against their will.

We live in a wildfire prone area. If you haven’t evacuated your family (and animals 🐎🐎) due to wildfires, be glad. I have—twice— when I lived in Colorado.

It is terrifying, and it’s a possibility here. Why add even more probability that makes this a reality?

If I am elected, I will work to isolate holiday shows to designated areas where explosives can be safely detonated, controlled, and avoided should anyone wish to do so.

I will support the sale of goods that replace the sale of fireworks for local organizations and churches that depend on the income to operate.

And I will support limiting transport of fireworks over our limited access to the island. Our bridge and ferries should not be compromised by hazards like fireworks.
