Democracy in Crisis

JOIN US!
The 10th LD hosts Democracy in Crisis: Taking Action
January 27, 10-4 PM at Skagit Valley College Cardinal Center Cafeteria, 2405 E College Way, Mt Vernon, WA

Join us for a day of inspiration and workshops in response to the rise of anti-Democratic forces in our communities, to show our strength and unity during these times, featuring the efforts of our local and state-wide organizations doing the work of keeping Democracy alive. Learn about legislation these organizations are supporting in Olympia, and learn how to take action by supporting this legislation.

The event’s featured speaker will be Paul Benz of the WA Partners for Social Change, the Criminal Justice Committee of the Snohomish County NAACP, the WA Coalition for Police Accountability and Communities Against Hate and Violent Extremism. Paul will share current updates on local and state efforts to combat hate and violent extremism. He will update us on bills currently in our state legislature.

Workshops will be presented by FairVote WA, Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays Skagit (PFLAG Skagit), and students at Skagit Valley College with Civil Survival, an organization dedicated to making positive change to support people impacted by the criminal justice system.

See the workshop list below for more details.

The event will also feature music by Gary Kanter of Camano Island, and the Skagit Valley College
Mariachis. Lunch, coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided. Please Join us for this free event. See details below or on our website. https://www.10thlddemocrats.org/events

SCIENCE OF GENDER- Presented by Parents and Friends of Lesbian and Gays Skagit (PFLAG Skagit) Linden Jordan. Linden is a retired attorney, mental health counselor and college professor.  He will be discussing The Science of Gender.  We are taught that it is all so simple, yet nothing could be further than the truth.  We will explore the world of in utero development as it applies to the formation of sexual anatomy and our gender identity.  You will understand why gender identity is so critical and so interesting. This workshop prepares you for those all important conversations when a loved one comes out to you. It will also help in this very confusing time regarding gender.

RANKED CHOICE VOTING- Presented by FAIRVOTE WA- Ranked-Choice Voting (RCV) is the fastest growing non-partisan reform in the U.S. Voters who try RCV say it’s simple and they want to keep using it. Come learn how it works, where it’s used, and how it can make politics more civil and more inclusive.
