The Island County Democrats posted a list of preferred candidates for the 2025 local elections, which we are reproducing here. We believe that the statements made by the leadership of each party is of general public interest.
Island County Democrats seek to inform Democratic voters about the goals, values and qualifications in many of the 2025 non-partisan elections. To that end, we invited candidates in key races to complete a short questionnaire.
The Rise & Run Committee reviewed all responses received as well as any incumbent history to provide recommendations on “Preferred” status in non-partisan races in this year’s General election. The Committee focused on the elections for Town/City Councils, School Boards and the Hospital Board of Commissioners across Island County.
The recommendations approved by the members of the Island County Democrats are included in the linked document below. You can also link to the candidate questionnaires if they responded.
Thank you to all candidates who stepped forward in every race in Island County. It takes energy and commitment to fill important roles like Fire Districts, Water Districts, and Port Commissions. We applaud those who are willing to take on elected offices as volunteers to keep our communities safe and functioning well. Though we did not attempt to review candidates in those district or neighborhood roles, we are truly grateful for your servant leadership.
A former Chair of Island County Democrats, Joseph Busig, is one of those volunteers who stepped forward to ask for your vote for the Cemetery District in Oak Harbor. Thank you, Joseph!
Ed. Note: The website includes a link to a PDF of their preferred candidates. We are embedding that document below.
