LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS: North Whidbey Candidate Forum

The League of Women Voters Whildbey Island (LWVWI) hosted a forum for candidates in North Whidbey from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. The forum consisted of three segments: North Whidbey Pool, Park, and Recreation District Commissioners, Oak Harbor City Council members, and Oak Harbor School District Directors. In each segment, candidates were asked a series of questions and then each candidate gave a closing statement.

NOTE: While LWVWI invited all candidates to participate in the forum, several did not attend. None of the four candidates for North Whidbey Pool, Parks, and Recreation District Commissioner attended. Two Oak Harbor City Council candidates were absent: Stephenie “Fe” Mischo declined the invitation, and Jim Woessner was a no-show. Jason Uemoto and Jessica Thompson, each challenging an incumbent for seats on the Oak Harbor school board, followed the lead of the challengers in South Whidbey, declining the LWVWI invitation and holding a separate event at the same time.

On the ballot in November 2021 – North Whidbey Pool, Park and Recreation District Commissioners:

• Position 2 – John Chargualaf – Incumbent, is running unopposed
• Position 4 – Steve McCaslin vs Brit Kraner – Incumbent Sean Merrill is not running
• Position 5 – James Marrow is running unopposed as incumbent Pat Hardin is not running

On the Ballot on November 2 – Oak Harbor City Council:

• Position 4 – Dan Evans vs Stephanie “Fe” Mischo – Incumbent Erica Wasinger not running
• Position 5 – Incumbent Joel Servatius vs Shane Hoffmire
• Position 6 – Incumbent Jim Woessner running unopposed
• Position 7 – Andy Plumlee vs Bryan Stucky – Incumbent Millie Goebel not running

On the Ballot on November 2 – Oak Harbor School Board:

• Position 4 – Incumbent John Diamond vs Jessica Thompson  
• Position 5 – Incumbent Erik Mann vs Jason Uemoto
