The North Whidbey Fire and Rescue District posted the following on their Facebook page on Thu., Jan. 11, 2024. The district has not released details as to how the vacancy occurred; the position was held by Commissioner T.J. Lamont, who was re-elected in November 2023.

North Whidbey Fire and Rescue is now accepting applications for Fire Commissioner Position #1.

Applications will close on January 31st, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.

Announcement of Fire Commissioner Vacancy

Island County Fire Protection District No. 2

The North Whidbey Fire District, serving the North Whidbey Community, has a vacancy in Commissioner Position #1.

The vacancy will be filled by appointment and will last until the 2024 general election is certified.

Commissioners act as the board of directors for the fire district. If you are interested in serving your community as a fire commissioner, please submit a letter of interest, an administrative job application which can be found on our web site www.nwfr.org, and resume to the district’s board secretary no later than 5:00 p.m. on January 31st, 2024.

Candidates selected for follow-up interviews will be notified no later than February 9th, 2024. Interviews by the board of fire commissioners will be conducted at the board’s regular meeting on February 13th, 2024.

Requirements: Applicants must be a registered voter residing within the fire district. Additional information about the role of a fire commissioner can be found in the Washington State Fire Commissioners ‘Commissioner Handbook’ or by contacting one of the current North Whidbey Fire and Rescue commissioners or the secretary of the board.
